Congratulations to the Simi Valley PTA Council
2025 Honorary Service Award Honorees
Each year the Simi Valley PTA Council selects recipients from our community who go above and beyond in their service to our students and school community as a whole, reaching multiple campuses, and touching many facets of involvement. We sincerely appreciate all these individuals and organizations give of themselves for our PTA and SVUSD community!
The Ronald Reagan Presidential
Foundation & Institute
Honorary Service Award
The Ronald Reagan Foundation is being honored for its outstanding commitment and dedication to the youth of Simi Valley. Their long-standing partnership with our schools has had a tremendous and lasting impact on student learning,
civic engagement, and educational enrichment.
The Foundation consistently opens the doors of the Library and Museum to our students, offering them access not only to world-class exhibits but also to invaluable educational opportunities. In addition, the Foundation has
offered student-centered programs, field trip bus grants, and much more.
The curriculum developed in collaboration with our local schools is used nationwide, benefiting students across the country. Their unwavering
support of our students and schools has enriched the lives of countless students, inspiring future leaders and fostering a love of learning.
Margaret Acosta
Honorary Service Award
Margaret has been a vital part of the Simi Valley PTA Council
Junior Olympics event for over 15 years. She has generously given
her time as a volunteer, organizing and managing all the running
events on the day of the competition. Anyone who has attended the event knows just how crucial this role is to keep everything running smoothly.
Beyond her contributions to Junior Olympics, Margaret is a full-time teacher who dedicates herself to her students both inside and outside the classroom. She has served on the Safety and Tech Committees, was a district rep for Science Common Core at the county level, and goes above and beyond by tutoring many students on her own time, always giving of herself to help others succeed.
Jonathan Bonesteel
Honorary Service Award
Jonathan has been actively involved in the SVUSD school community and PTA world for many years, starting as a classroom volunteer. He consistently goes above and beyond for our students, schools, and PTAs. Students and their families adore him. Jonathan makes every student feel seen and heard with support and encouraging words.
Whether it be chairing campus events, running Katherine Elementary's PE program, actively serving on the Citizens' Bond Oversight Committee for SVUSD,
or organizing and running the Council-wide Junior Olympics event, he devotes countless hours to help make our students' experiences enriched. His time, dedication, and work ethic are inspiring!
Honorary Service Awards are designed as a unique way for PTA units, councils, and districts to publicly acknowledge individuals, businesses, and organizations for outstanding community service to children and youth in a community.
The Honorary Service Award program offers seven distinctive types of awards:
Very Special Person Award (VSP) – This award is given to recognize an individual or organization for their service to PTA.
Honorary Service Award (HSA) – This award is given to recognize an individual or organization for outstanding service to children and youth in your community, going above and beyond what is asked of them.
Continuing Service Award (CSA) – This award is given to recognize an individual or organization for ongoing or long-time service to children and youth, providing support year after year.
Outstanding Teacher Award (OTA) – This award may be given to recognize a teacher for outstanding service to children and youth through PTA, school, or community.
Outstanding Administrator Award (OAA) – This award may be given to recognize an administrator for outstanding service to children and youth through PTA, school, or the community.
Elected Official Honorary Service Award (EOHSA) – This award may be given to recognize an elected official for outstanding policy work and/or legislation that positively impacts the lives of children. This award may be given at the local, state or federal level. This award is not to be used as an endorsement of any elected official, but to celebrate the work of the elected official.
Golden Oak Service Award (GOSA) – This award is given to recognize, as the most prestigious of the Honorary Service Awards, an individual or organization that has made significant contributions to the welfare of children and youth in a school or community.
In addition, In Memoriam or Tribute Donations awards can be given in tribute to a person, a group or in memoriam.
